Safe as Milk is a large scale painting of the X-ray of a nail bomb, an image that was broadcast initially by ABC News in the follow-up to the 7th July 2005 bombing campaign in the UK. An everyday bottle has been transformed into a potential agent of death. In its construction, an aesthetic sensibility manifests - there is no need for the nails to be arranged in such a deliberate and ordered fashion, yet the bomb’s fabricator has created - whether intentionally, unintentionally or subcon-sciously - a powerful aspirational statement.
